George Wayne Spann
February 11, 1949 - December 16, 2018
George Wayne Spann passed away peacefully in his home on December 16, 2018. He was born on February 11, 1949, in Gladewater, Texas, to Rayburn and Josephine Spann. He grew up having fun and getting into trouble with his cousin, Don Greer, and a variety of cars through his teenage years. He always enjoyed reminiscing about cruising in those cars and spending time with friends in the backroads and bottoms of East Texas. George graduated from Quitman High School in 1967 and attended his 50th class reunion last year. He met Pam, his wife of 45 years in 1973. In marrying Pam, he gained another close family in the Forrests. He cherished his relationships with Charlie, Crickett, Joe, and the rest of the Forrest family. After they were married, George and Pam moved to Pamís hometown of Daingerfield, where George became an employee of Irvin Enterprises. George also worked at Woodland Harbor on Lake Bob Sandlin where he made many more close friends and got to spend a lot of time outdoors. He went on to work with J.R. Moore and Melvin Robertson on their ranches, drink coffee with friends at Hawkins and The Rabbit Hole, and spend lots of time in his woodworking shop. George was best known to his friends and the community for his masterful woodworking and craftsmanship, his humor, and for always being willing to help friends and strangers. His family will cherish his memory in their shared enjoyment of honky tonk music, playing spades, and the outdoors. George was preceded in death by his parents, Rayburn and Josephine Spann, and his parents-in-law, Charlie and Crickett Forrest. George is survived by his wife, Pam Spann, of Daingerfield; daughters, Jennifer and Paul Parks, of Austin, Karen and Erik Ostergaard, of Asheville, NC, and Sydney Spann, of Austin; granddaughters, Greta Ostergaard and Charlie Parks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Sandie Spann and Laura and David Spann, of Liberty City; nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or Spring Hill Cemetery Association. A memorial to celebrate the life of George will be held at The Hill Event Space (665 US Hwy 259 S, Daingerfield) on December 22, 2018, at 2:00.
